2024 High School Enrollment for Summer School
If you would like to enroll in our virtual LAUNCH classes AND our in-person summer classes, please fill this form out TWICE. It also needs to be completed for EACH student you are enrolling.

Session 1: June 3-June 14, 8:00-2:30
Session 2: June 17-June 28, 1, 8:00-2:30 (June 19 is a holiday, so there will be no summer school)

The 2024 Summer School program will begin on Monday, June 3.  This year’s summer school program will be located at Grain Valley SOUTH MIDDLE SCHOOL.  Class will begin at 8:00 am each day, and doors will be open at 7:45 for students to purchase breakfast if they choose to do so.  Lunch will also be available for purchase, or students can bring their own lunch.  Off-campus lunch and ordering for delivery will NOT be permitted. Students will be dismissed at 2:30.

The district is unable to provide transportation to or from school, and is also unable to provide transportation for A+ tutors.  All school policies apply to the summer school program as well, and failure to adhere to these policies may result in removal from the program.

SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
There are three basic programs for summer school: Credit recovery, virtual LAUNCH courses, and in-person electives.

1. Credit Recovery
Credit recovery is designed for students who must retake a previously failed course to get credit for high school graduation.  Summer school credit recovery is in person, but courses are facilitated through an online program called Acellus.  There is an in-person instructor to help as needed.

2. LAUNCH Program (Virtual)
We partner with an online program called LAUNCH to offer a few virtual options during the summer.  Courses are offered in the months of June or July and no in-person attendance is required or accepted. The students can work on the course at flexible times throughout the day, but keeping up with daily coursework is important due to the accelerated nature of the course.  An online instructor is also available for live instruction during the day if a student needs extra help. These classes take 1 month per 1/2 credit hour.  Students can take 1 class in June and 1 class in July.   (Please note that students taking PE will be issued a Garmin device that measures physical activity during their workouts.)
Important Note:  LAUNCH courses cannot be taken as a credit recovery option. For example, if your student has already taken Personal Finance and failed the course, they may NOT sign up for Personal Finance through LAUNCH.

3. In-Person Electives
A few high school elective courses have been proposed, but are only able to be offered if enough students sign up for the class. If you are interested in one of these courses, we encourage you to invite a friend to join to promote the class! In-person elective courses will run for a two-week, all-day session at South Middle School from 8:00am to 2:30pm.

It is important to note that attendance each day is critical for earning credit.  Due to the accelerated nature of summer school (students take one course for 10 days, 8:00-2:30 daily), students must have perfect attendance.  The LAUNCH program classes do not require any in-person attendance nor do we expect LAUNCH students to be in person.

For students wishing to participate in the A+ program, please be sure to coordinate your tutoring with Mr. Cox at rcox@gvr5.net.
