Volunteering with Grain Valley Schools

In order to keep our student’s safe, volunteers must be screened. We will use Atlas Risk Management, LLC to complete a background check. Please follow the steps below to become a volunteer or attend field trips:

• Complete the Volunteer Application Google form
  • Volunteers must complete the Volunteer Application Google form each year.
• Once you have completed the Google Volunteer Application, the district will reach out to you with your next steps which will include...
  • Completing an Authorization to Release Records form for Atlas Risk Management, LLC
  • Paying $17.25 for the background check to be processed. (The cost maybe higher as determined by Atlas Risk Management, if that is the case you will be contacted by the district.)
  • If you have completed the Volunteer Application Google form and have a current background check on file a GVSD employee will email you your current approval status along with your background check's expiration date. If you have further questions please contact your student's school building or Melina Denham Hoard at [email protected]. 

Once your background check is cleared, you will receive an email notification to complete volunteer training. This training reviews expectations for volunteers and must be completed annually. Once this training is complete, you have ben approved to volunteer. 
 

Lunch Buddy program

The Lunch Buddy Program is an excellent opportunity for adults from all walks of life to make a difference in the life of a child. The Lunch Buddy program works to match positive, consistent adult mentors to elementary aged youth in Grain Valley Schools to improve student peer relationships and strengthen positive connections to school.

A Lunch Buddy is someone to eat with, someone to talk to, someone to listen to, and someone a child can depend on to be there for them. A Lunch Buddy volunteer will meet with the child during the student’s lunch hour once every two weeks to help a child gain better relationships with their peers and feel better about their school community.
